So you have made the decision to learn how to become a dj, awesome! If you are doing it for the right reasons then there is no reason that you won’t live your dreams and become the quality dj you want.

It isn’t going to be easy but nothing worth doing is. That said with the right information your journey of learning how to become a dj can be fast tracked significantly. The fact that you have found yourself on the DJ Master Course blog is fantastic, it’s the perfect platform if you want your dreams can start here!

In this article I’m going to share with you what I believe are the three most important tips when wanting to learn how to become a dj.

Become a DJ Hot Tip 1 (Get yourself known, start meeting people in the industry)

You need to find a quality dj mentor; you need to surround yourself with like minded people. Go to the club nights in your local area you’d love to play at and inject yourself into the social aspect of the club. Introduce yourself to the bar staff, door staff and most importantly promoters. Introduce yourself to the djs, be yourself you will be surprised how much djs like talking music/djing etc remember it’s their passion also.

Become a DJ Tip 2 (Never stop leaning how to dj)

Learn all you can, never stop learning you need to become a sponge never think you know it all – you need to want to become better no matter how good you think you are. Never be stagnant in your learning so you can be overtaken, be so passionate and relentless that you are the one doing the overtaking. Leave no stone unturned in your learning, become the best dj you possibly can. Read, ask questions, watch tutorial videos, watch your favourite djs from the side of the dj booth, listen to your music over and over so you understand how it is structured, do anything you can to become the best.

Become a DJ Tip 3 (Practice, practice, practice and then practice some more)

My favourite saying, something I adapt to most things I try in life:

  • Amateurs practice until they get it right
  • Professionals practice until they can’t get it wrong

Practice relentlessly – take your time in the learning to make sure you master the basics so you have a solid platform to experiment and move forward from. If you don’t have a solid platform you’re behind the eight ball before you even begin. Don’t end up chasing your tail by rushing.

The best part about taking your time when learning how to become a dj and practicing is it becomes more enjoyable, why because you actually get better and begin to master the true art of dj mixing. It’s an awesome feeling and something worth the time and effort
