Sandro Silva is another artist proving age doesn’t mean a thing when becoming a DJ. Learning how to DJ as a young teenager, Sandro had his first gold record by the time he had turned 21. This ‘Epic’ collaboration with Quintino became a cult club record, famous for a drop dubbed as a moment of pure production genius.
Taken under the wing of renowned Dutch producer Laidback Luke, Silva has toured the world over sharing the main stage with his idols.
A lot of artists have varied release schedules these days. Ideally how often would you like to release new records?
In a perfect situation, I would love to release a single every month. But we try to release only the best and the most perfect songs that come out of the studio.
What was the first record you ever released?
I’ve been producing more than six years now and I think it all started with my first release on Laidback Luke’s label called Mixmash. That release opened a lot of doors for me and it gave me the chance to evolve as a producer and a DJ of course.
Fast forward to the crazy success of ‘Epic’ with Quintino. This turned out to be a cult club record across the globe. Did you see this one coming?
I never expected the success of ‘Epic’ when I finished it in the studio. I think it was something new and it was released in the right time and a combination of those things made it big. With ‘Epic’ I tried to do something totally different, so I dipped the more harder stuff into it like a really distorted gig.
There are a lot of DJ's who were supporting ‘Epic’. I think almost every house DJ played it and even the Swedish House Mafia are still playing it almost every set in their final tour. So that’s amazing of course!
What do you look for in a remix before taking on the job?
Before I make a remix, I always try to pick the key elements out of the remix back. It could be the vocals or it could be a really catchy melody from the original.
I really like to work with other people on new music, especially talented songwriters or people who are really talented in the studio. I never write top lines by myself because I know so much talented songwriters who do the job so much better than me.
When a name like David Guetta is attached to a track, do you remix it regardless of what you think of the original?
When somebody like David Guetta is asking you to do a remix, the answer is easy for me of course! It’s a great chance for a producer to remix a big DJ and it opens a lot of doors too. I would describe my sound as powerful, melodic and catchy.
What projects can the fans be on the look out for in the near future?
There are so many projects I’m working on at the moment. I’ve produced a lot of tracks the last couple of months and it will all be out this year. All I can say for now is that it’s really diverse and something new again.
